Open Source Integral

hi everyone. umm ive been kind of kicking this idea around for a while but never put it into words so here goes...much of integral theory seems to focus on politics, psychology, sciences etc. but not to much attention is paid to music. music is an important part of culture because it helps to spread ideeas and feelings. i thnk of tribal drumming or traditional indian(the country) music when everyone agreed on the same music. these days we have so many different branches off the same tree-rock, rap, punk, folk, and each one of those has at least 10 different sub-categories. most of these categories either exzaggerate or minimalize ideas and feelings so that members who are interested in the other types just dont feel or hear what that group is trying to express. experimentation and trying new things musically can be good or bad. too much experimentation can lead to alienation of the person or group making the music to go so far out as to not be able to relate back to the tribe anymore. i am not just talking about lyrics but also about how the music is played. some groups are so into hard "reality that they beat the idea into the ground while others are so hopeful and positive, they ignore important facts.. i suppose this goes back to kids not understanding thier parents and vice versa among other things. where do you turn when you know your parents have lost touch with reality? friends who have the same problems, tv, music... if you stretch something one way eventually its going to pull in the opposite direction with the same amount of force. i am just suggesting that music return to a haoppy medium, expressing all emotions but within a certain degree of recognizability. sometimes lyrics arent even necessary singing yes but actual words no. thanks for reading.

I have been trying to incorporate my integral understanding to music for the last couple years. I agree it is an interesting facet to pursue and try to evolve. In my music I use a variety of samples along with synths to try to convey an atmosphere or state experience that is able to be passed on to the listener. I think that is the test of truly good art, is the ability to elicit a certain state change in the experiencer.
