The SPAMmer here was your first encounter? My ... you're lucky.

As far as "something fishy", the out of context "Hey, look at me! Do what I say! Buy this! Trust me as though your closest friend!" is usually the give away.

Sheboygan, huh? I'm actually from Madison originally.

Sufism is actually a mystical tradition with Islam, not Hinduism. A lot of amazing mystical thinkers can be found in translation from within various trains of Sufism. Ibn Arabi is perhaps one of the most well-known, though in pop culture many know and love Rumi, Hafiz, and tales of Nasruddin.

Sikhism is distinct from Islam and Hinduism, though you could find commonalities with both of those traditions. They believe in reincarnation like Hindus but worship one God as in Islam. There have been a few different gurus in the 20th Century that taught mystical varieties of Sikhism to Western Audiences.

What type of Buddhism are you most interested in? Any particular teachers you connect best with?

Regards,

Quinlan

Hey Zachary, your August 4th note is the first what I consider important feedback on the Cube. I am going to do you justice and reply in more detail soon; but for now suffice it to say the 1st person Cube can differentiate and map psychopathologies such as schizophrenia and other Fulcrum splits, and I hope psychotherapists wise up to this ASAP. In the first person Cube we have eight perspectives; four State Stages and four corresponding Structure Stages. The four "Individuals Quadrants" ("I" Intuitive #1, "I" Empirical #2, "Me" Intuitive #5 and "My" Empirical #6) map our personal self-awareness, and these four resonate as a unit in giving us a self-awareness sense or picture. In #1 is our core Self-identity where Witness identifies with what ever level it is on (say Witness-as-Ego); in #2 the Structure that Self-identity inhabits is how we interpret that Self-identity (say how we think about our Self-as-Ego); in #5 we are in the corresponding State of how the Self-identity sees itself as a mode of expression, hence Persona as the "Me" I know myself to be; in #6 is the corresponding behavioral Empirical personality of that Intuitive Persona. In all four we can compartmentalize our experience to manageable levels, and in the process generate Self and Persona splits, as sub-self identities and sub-personalities. Your comment has inspired me to write more on this, and post it on KenWilber. I have a post coming up this week on that site (Cube Part 2) where I touch on that process in the Individuals Quadrants, but I will now communicate with you as I develop the map you need. All my love, Lexi

Thanks zachary! I'll check them out while you check out mine, and we'll talk. Thank you for your interest. As a heads-up, my main concern was to remain true to Ken's model - transcending and including - because I think it's a good one as far as it goes, and the baby should not get thrown out with the bathwater. Talk to you soon, Lexi

Thanks for the comments, Zachary.

I am sorry to hear about your job. I'm sure you have heard a million voices tell you how tough it is right now. Have you ever thought of starting your own business? A few of my friends have done this and are successfully doing startups while collecting unemployment. Sweet deal!

Yes, it is a terrible shame that people are hungry in a world of abundance. I have major difficulties looking at a dumpster full of rotting unsold food outside supermarkets while people are starving in a supposedly enlightened country. What you must learn to understand, however, are the dynamics of power in this dying paradigm and be steadfast, but patient while the natural order of creative destruction tears the old ways down.

As for a forecast of technology: We are at the beginning of a long period of uncertainty which may last 10 or more years. All we can do is look at our present technology AND behavior, and project forward along the same path. I do not like what I see using that method. Be careful when listening to the rosy future people...They may be feeding you happiness to further their own agenda.

As for A.I.? Movie-like artificial intelligence will never happen using logical means. Tell your ontology friend he is wasting his time...Nicely, of course.
